Invitation

Dear All,

Lot of thoughts for several years are now coming into action; and we are formally registering a NGO and start functioning in this rainy season.
This idea is about start growing trees to cut the effect of pollution to some extent and this is what some meaningful we can do in this growing world, commitment of constraining the usage of vehicles/industries is limited to a small percentage of people, with the growing demand of industry products and urbanization we will fall short of our commitments to limit the pollution, now I think only way is to increase the oxygen in nature is by planting more trees, that’s the only way we can balance the pollution which we are causing directly/indirectly, it becomes our social responsibility too  to contribute something to our mother earth.

We spoke to Forest department, Horticulture officers, Lawyer, other NGO persons regarding this they praised and offered support for this initiative.

Idea is we, LetsGrowTrees(LGT) members will start this work of planting trees in their native villages, team will validate the support we get in that village, once we get the +ve picture we will get all required permissions (from Forest Department, local Panchayat and locals), will form a team in the village headed by LGT member and other knowledgeable and responsible people in the village and hire a person to do the plantation and maintenance, preference will be given to a person who is already volunteering in these kind of activities. Hired person will get the salary monthly. Initially two wheel drum trolley and other equipments required for planting will be provided to him, using trolley it would become easy for the person to water the plants.

In the beginning we will start in one or two villages in different districts of Karnataka, depending on the fund availability we could increase this number in the coming years to different states also, we mainly need to get proper experience in the first two villages before we could expand greatly. Funding will be done by the LGT members initially and later we could collect from others.

This is smaller scale of work we are doing in a small scale and hence expense will be less, we need to prove ourselves in this work, for the first two to three years struggle will be there, later when organization grows by that time it will be systematic and we will be capable to handle issues comes across.

Do let us know if you have any concerns/queries/suggestions.

Please join us if you feel the idea is worth, registration of NGO is on the way need members and volunteers, hurry!!

Thanks,
LetsGrowTrees Enthusiasts/Members

First meet with Forest department

Recently spoke to Forest Department officer about our plan and he was delighted with our initiative, he said he will be able to assist if we come up with a proper project plan and he provided following useful information.

Dept. will be able to provide the samplings as many we ask for anywhere in Karnataka but they will not be able to provide any assistance in funds/money as some NGOs miss used it, well that still fits in our plan.
We need to prepare a project plan which will compose of
  1. How many trees we are going to plant and how do we maintain them
  2. Source of funds
  3. How watering arrangement are done
  4. How maintenance is planned, will u have a hired person to take care of the plants?
  5. Planting should follow their instructions
Hole should be dug for one meter
Support stick should be provided for the plant
Surround protection should be provided for the plant to protect from animals
  6. Three years maintenance plan needs to be produced
As per their estimate Rs. 150 required per plant for the 3 year span of maintenance and they will provide the samplings only in the month of rainy seasons from June to October.

He also cautioned about challenges we are going to face when we implement this kind of program also he told us that it is achievable if we have committed people and have the proper plan and wished us all the best.

Next step for us is to register as NGO and in parallel working on the Project Plan.

Need helping hands to achieve this.

Thanks,
Prasanna.

Starting..

Yes I thought of this initiative several times in my life and now I am stepping ahead in this direction, needs all the support.

Objective of this initiative is to make a self sustainable system which can concentrate continuously on growing trees, in all possible locations & ways.

In my view limiting carbon emission using "carbon trading" rules doesn't solve the problem, yes it surely limits, but we need to work towards solving the problem, need to increase the oxygen level and need to reduce the temperature, this move of "Lets Grow Trees" is aiming those.

I am optimistic on this and chocking out a plan to build this system, please share your ideas and help in this regard, thanks in advance :) "Lets Grow Trees".

This initiative shall start from rural areas, in view that it will give employment to at least one person and we will have enough roadside area to grow the trees.
This employee will be responsible to plant and maintain the trees. Failure rates target set to less than 5%.

Each village will have
1> One employee to plant and manage the trees.
2> Monitoring and guiding committee:
a> One degree holder with computer knowledge employed elsewhere volunteer who have the zeal to work in this NGO (an IT employee also).
b> 2 Panchayat members and 2 available officials in that village

Also about earning aspect apart from raising the funds, we shall get the rights on the oxygen emission and could sell it to the companies (more work required in this area OR it could be foolish wish?).

Initial plan is to set up the NGO first with all legal formalities.
Raise and invest small amount of funds to manage at least 3 villages as per our plan, it requires around 1 lakh rupees for each village per year.

Year 1 target: 3 villages 1000 trees
Year 2 target: 10 villages 5000 trees
Year 3 target: 30 villages 20000 trees

The above projected tree numbers are small, as we grow we should revise them.
Spreading into multiple villages is tougher part, thats why we should start in different states and the competition among them should make the growth.

Initial plan is to set up/ register NGO in Bangalore and I am looking for volunteers in Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Fund raising would be our next activity after forming the team.
